Frequently Asked Questions

What is the speed distance time formula?

The core relationship is Distance = Speed × Time. Rearranging gives Speed = Distance ÷ Time and Time = Distance ÷ Speed. These three forms are sometimes shown as a triangle with D on top and S × T on the bottom.

How do I calculate average speed?

Divide the total distance by the total time. If you drove 240 km in 3 hours, your average speed is 240 ÷ 3 = 80 km/h. Average speed ignores stops and speed changes along the way.

What units does this calculator support?

Speed: km/h, m/s, mph, and knots. Distance: kilometres, metres, miles, and nautical miles. Time: hours, minutes, and seconds. Results are automatically converted to all supported units.

What is the difference between speed and velocity?

Speed is a scalar — it only tells you how fast something is moving. Velocity is a vector — it includes both speed and direction. This calculator works with speed (magnitude only).

How do I convert between km/h and mph?

Multiply km/h by 0.621371 to get mph, or divide mph by 0.621371 to get km/h. For example, 100 km/h ≈ 62.1 mph.

What are knots?

One knot equals one nautical mile per hour (1.852 km/h). Knots are the standard speed unit in aviation and maritime navigation.

How do I calculate running pace?

Pace is the inverse of speed, expressed as minutes per kilometre (or mile). If you run 5 km in 25 minutes, your pace is 25 ÷ 5 = 5:00 min/km. Use the "Running 5K" preset to try this.

Can I share my calculation?

Yes. After calculating, click the "Share this calculation" button. It copies a permalink to your clipboard that anyone can open to see the same inputs and result.

Is my data stored anywhere?

No. All calculations run entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and no cookies or personal data are stored.
